Experience Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar is a sprawling, industrialized city of pulsating commerce, wild traffic, sinful nightlife, and bohemian counterculture. The contrasts within the city are intriguing: Armani-suited businessmen rub shoulders with mohawked punks and del-clad nomads fresh off the steppes; one minute you’re dodging the path of a Hummer H2 and the next you’re entranced by chanting Buddhist monks at Gandan Khiid. It's the coldest capital in the world, but come summer the city bursts into life after slumbering through a long winter.

The cliffs of the canyon block the sunlight from the rivers below, so that they remain frozen until end of June. Enjoy a short hike along the valley amidst the scenery.

Drive towards to Bayanzag (140 km) - a classic desert of rock, red sands, scrub, sun and its unbelievable emptiness has become known to the world as "Cemetery of Dinosaurs”. The red sandstone cliffs and canyons of Bayanzag are where the American paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews first discovered fossil beds of dinosaur bones and first ever recorded dinosaur eggs in 1922 - discoveries which made world headlines. Nowadays there is a local museum which displays important facts and some exhibits of this famous area.

In the afternoon, drive to Moltsog Els, one of the few regions of the Gobi covered by sand dunes. This long sand dune is situated in 35km from the lodge. Surrounded by saxaul trees, they are smaller but beautifully formed and provide a pleasant alternative. Here you can experience beautiful sand dunes and go on a camel trek (1 hour). Indulge in a picnic lunch in the open air, followed by a leisure hike near the site.
